Senjou no Valkyria (ie. Valkyria Chronicles) 01 - Double Ponytail, Chest enhancement, and invasion

This is got to be my most anticipated series this season. 

I had a history with this IP, starte by watching the live gameplay footage on the 4playerpodcast channel on jtv, which then followed by the craze exemplified by 3 fanarts and the obtaining of the first volume of official manga and the OST. I had been waiting for it since the announcement, and had high expectations for it since I really love the game.

That high level of expectation is often followed by disappointment. I can put myself in the category of graphic whore, one who is obsessed about the visual presentation of a creation. One reason that I love the original PS3 game is because of the visual style, the way the use the water colour painting to create a artsy feel to the environment, and the way they seemlessly blend the CG and the gameplay together. I can see that the anime itself is trying to replicate the overall feelings while resort back to the anime-style drawings (as it's easier to draw characters that way). I am not sure if it's due to the extra work they have to do, but from the first episode I can already see several forms of distortions, ie. the screenshots that will make you cringe when you see them.

I am really glad that they use the OST from the game itself, some of the battle sequences really bring back the memories just because of the music itself. Not sure about the OP though. Any music video that begins with the main male and female characters half naked doing weird stares in a melodramatic way signals bad things to come...

In terms of pacing, although some people say it's quite slow, I find it appropriate to introduce the main characters Welkin and Alicia and the 2 other support cast. No need to blast everything at 100mile/hour. 

I would still follow it, since I am a huge fan of this game.  Will be waiting to see how they handle the combat situations properly in the later episodes.
